When Historical Society board member David Lyle was assigned to Dutch Harbor, Alaska as a Station Director for US Customs, he didn’t know that it would ignite an interest in the history of World War II. Lyle spent two years in Alaska and while exploring several of the islands in the Aleutian chain he found many of them littered with rusted metal weapons and structures. Where had they come from?

Digging deeper, Lyle discovered the seldom told story of the Thousand Mile War and the Japanese invasion of the Aleutian Islands. In honor of Memorial Day, you are invited to join the Harbor Springs Area Historical Society on Thursday, May 23 to learn more about this chapter in the history of WWII.

Lyle's presentation will take place on the second floor of the Harbor Springs History Museum and refreshments will be provided. The talk begins at 5:30 pm and costs $5 for Historical Society members and $10 for non-members.

Due to limited seating at the museum building, reservations are strongly encouraged and can be made by calling 231.526.9771 or emailing
