During the 1880s, as the logging boom in northern Michigan was grinding to a halt, the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad turned to tourism to make its many railways profitable. Instead of hauling timber, the railroad hauled visitors to the Little Traverse Bay area. Learn more on Thursday, March 21 when we welcome railroad historian Jim Winslow.

Winslow has researched and collected railroad history for the last 40 years, focusing on the Grand Rapids and Indiana and the Pennsylvania Railroads. His presentation will cover the Petoskey area resort railroad service and include blueprints, a discussion of the various branches, dummy trains and general railroad history. Many items from his collection will be on display as well.

Reservations are appreciated and refreshments will be provided prior to the presentation. Admission is $10 and free for current Historical Society members. For more information or to inquire about membership please contact the society at 231.526.9771.
