Home-TourThe Petoskey Area is known for its gorgeous scenery and interesting past. Combine those views and intriguing history with the opportunity to explore some beautiful and unique homes and you’ve got a great day on tap! Two such days are possible in the near future.

On Saturday, September 26, the Little Traverse Historical Society will host their 2015 Historic Home Tour which features five homes near downtown Petoskey. One of the homes is a Craftsman-style house built in 1910 by a local lumber company owner. In an age of “disposable” everything, it’s interesting to note that this home still has the original dining room furniture! Yet another from 1917 is on the National Register of Historic Places and touts the original flooring.

The 2015 Historic Home Tour starts out at another historic building, the Little Traverse History Museum, which once housed the passenger depot for the Chicago and West Michigan railroad line. After a brief orientation, guests on the tour may head to whichever home they wish to see first. Docents will be on hand to talk about the history of each of the houses. One other historic stop is available; Petoskey’s Carnegie Library – also on the National Register of Historic Places – (circa 1908) offers a glimpse into turn-of-the-century architecture. Tickets are just $20 and can be purchased at the Little Traverse History Museum. Call 231.347.2620 to find out more.

On October 10, ten homeowners will graciously open their doors for the Northern Home & Cottage Tour from 10am to 5pm. This exciting tour will serve up a taste of several different styles with each of the homes selected for its uniqueness. The event will also be a wonderful way to see the beauty of fall as the route encompasses Walloon Lake, Petoskey, Harbor Springs and Alanson.

Buy tickets for the Northern Home & Cottage Tour at MyNorth.com for $15 in advance, $20 on tour day.

What a great chance to get a peek at beautifully designed and decorated homes. Take one tour, or both, and enjoy a special day of touring in the Petoskey Area.{{cta(‘653c37e8-dba1-412b-b24f-a37155417f80′,’justifycenter’)}}
